International Students' Water-Splashing Festival Celebration Held at Baita Street Campus

Time:2015-04-15

A single flower does not make a spring; a hundred flowers in full blossom bring spring to the garden. Every April, the Dai and Thai ethnic groups, among other Southeast Asian nations, celebrate a traditional festival known as the Water-Splashing Festival. During this festival, people splash each other with pure water to wash away the misfortunes of the past year. At 10:30 a.m. on April 14th, the celebration of the Water-Splashing Festival by international students from Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, and other countries at Leshan Vocational and Technical College and Leshan Normal University began in the auditorium of the Baita Street Campus. Attending the event were Chen Zhihai, Deputy Secretary of the College Party Committee and Discipline Inspection Secretary, Huang Xiaoli, Director of the International Affairs Office, Shi Jianhua, Director of the Propaganda Department, Ye Hongguang, Director of the Student Affairs Department, and other department and faculty leaders. From Leshan Normal University, Vice President Chen Xiaochun, Director Liao Fei of the International Affairs Office, Dean Gong Xiao of the School of Economics and Management, and Vice Dean Deng Chi of the School of Plant Sciences were also present. The guests included relevant teachers from the Normal University, all members of the International Students' Affairs Office, and international student counselors. All international students and some classes from the Nursing Department participated in the celebration.

At the celebration, Deputy Secretary Chen Zhihai and Vice President Chen Xiaochun delivered speeches, expressing their hopes that young people from different countries would strengthen friendly exchanges and promote greater cultural interaction and integration. Song Han, a representative of the international students from the Normal University, wished for everlasting friendship between Laos, Thailand, and China. The international students warmly presented flower garlands and water-dropping blessings to the leaders and teachers, who in turn reciprocated with cordial smiles, wrist-tie blessings, and flower garlands, creating a lively atmosphere.

During the celebration, international students from both universities, with sweet smiles and graceful steps, and accompanied by exotic music, performed five wonderful dances, including "Little Apple," "Golden Section," and "Land of Freedom." The audience spontaneously applauded and cheered at the highlights. Finally, "To Youth," performed by Chinese students from Leshan Vocational and Technical College, reminded us that youth is fleeting, and only by cherishing the present can we secure the future. The excitement did not end there. At 12:30 p.m., the water-splashing activity began in the风雨广场 (Rain and Wind Plaza). Leaders, teachers, and students splashed water and offered blessings together, experiencing an unprecedented sense of joy and happiness, as if youth would never fade away. Amidst the splashing water, the event came to a successful conclusion.

This event not only fostered friendship among students from China, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, and other countries but also played a significant role in promoting the school's external cooperation and exchange, building an international campus culture and learning environment, and enhancing the level of educational internationalization.
