To better promote Ebian and raise awareness about its unique culture, on December 1st, foreign teachers and students from Leshan Vocational and Technical College visited Ebian for an immersive cultural experience, exploring the rich Yi ethnic culture of the region.
Early in the morning, their first stop was the Archery Ground. Cheng Dongjuan, the Minister of Publicity of the Ebian County Committee, acted as a tour guide, sharing the story of "Seven Captures of Meng Huo" and the love tale of Ganmo Aniu. These stories provided a fascinating insight into the region's historical and cultural heritage.
For lunch, the group enjoyed a feast of authentic Yi cuisine, including chunky pork, chunky chicken, sour cabbage tofu, Ebian cured ham, and buckwheat cakes. The delicious flavors left them full of praise.
Later in the day, they traveled to the Yi New Village in Didi Gud Village, Heizugou Town. Dressed in traditional Yi clothing and armed with needles and threads, they learned embroidery under the guidance of local Yi embroiderers. "This embroidery is really challenging. Compared to the embroidery from my own country, it's much more complex. But I'm very happy to have learned some basic techniques," said Sia, a teacher from Sierra Leone, in an interview with the local media.
During their visit, they also visited local villagers' homes to form bonds and received souvenirs from the warm-hearted residents. The phrase "Hello, nice to meet you" echoed as two foreign teachers interacted with eighth-grade students at Xihexiang Middle School. The lively atmosphere, combined with games and teaching, left a lasting impression on the children.
In the evening, a bonfire party was held on the playground of Xihexiang Middle School. The entire faculty and student body of the school sang the "Toast Song" together, inviting the foreign teachers and students to join. Everyone, including the foreign guests and students, gathered around the fire, holding hands and singing and dancing together. The students from Xihexiang Middle School and Ebian Vocational High School also presented a wonderful cultural performance for everyone.
Throughout the day, filled with novel and engaging interactive activities, the foreign teachers and students experienced the Yi culture of Ebian through sight, taste, and participation. They expressed their intention to bring the nearly extinct traditional Yi culture to other parts of the world, showcasing it to a global audience.
