From June 2 to 12, 2024, at the invitation of the Ministries of Education of Tanzania, Uganda, and Seychelles, Cheng Dingbin, the Party Committee Secretary of the school, led a delegation of three people from the International Cooperation Office and the Academic Affairs Office to Africa to participate in the "2024 (4th) China-Africa International Vocational Education Academic Exchange Seminar and the Promotion and Application of Vocational Standards in African Countries." The event was hosted by the Tanzanian Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Tanzania National Vocational Education Commission, supported by the Ministries of Education and Sports of Uganda, the Ministry of Education of Seychelles, and other educational authorities and Chinese-funded enterprises in multiple countries. It was undertaken by the China-Africa Vocational Education Alliance. The theme of the event focused on "High-Quality Promotion of Vocational Education Standard Integration and Joint Construction of a Closer China-Africa Community with a Shared Future." More than 40 representatives from over 10 domestic higher vocational education institutions, including Sun Shixue, former vice president of the China Vocational Education Association, and Shenzhen Polytechnic University, attended the event.
The academic seminar was held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. At the meeting, James Mdoe, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Tanzanian Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, presented an award certificate to Leshan Vocational and Technical College for its contribution to the development of vocational education standards in Tanzania, recognizing the college's specific contributions to the development of vocational education in Tanzania.
During the roundtable forum at the conference, Cheng Dingbin was invited to make a special speech, focusing on introducing the school's educational conditions, distinctive professional courses, and achievements in vocational education. He shared the school's experience and achievements in internationalization and the development of Tanzanian vocational standards.
During the visit, the delegation also visited the Ministries of Education of Uganda and Seychelles, the Arusha School of Accountancy in Tanzania, the Tanzania National Transport College, the Uganda International University of East Africa, Kampala International University, the Create Sun Uganda Oil Institute, the Seychelles Institute of Technology, the Seychelles Agricultural and Horticultural College, the Seychelles School of Art and Design, and the China Railway Construction Corporation East Africa Company. Based on the consensus and vision for the development of China-Africa vocational education cooperation, the delegation had practical exchanges with several institutions, focusing on standard development, joint professional construction, teacher training, and talent cultivation. They also held in-depth discussions and feasibility planning in multiple fields and signed bilateral cooperation memorandums.
Subsequently, the delegation met with Ambassador Lin Nan, the Chinese Ambassador to Seychelles. Ambassador Lin praised the achievements of China-Africa and China-Seychelles cooperation in the field of vocational education and hoped that Chinese vocational colleges would continue to strengthen practical cooperation with the Seychelles Ministry of Education and relevant institutions, making greater contributions to deepening the friendly relations between the two peoples and enhancing China-Seychelles friendship.
Through this visit, the school gained a deep understanding of the current status and needs of vocational education development in Tanzania, Uganda, and Seychelles. It also strengthened collaboration with Chinese-funded enterprises, aligning education with industrial output and promoting school-enterprise cooperation. This further expanded the school's international "circle of friends" and broadened the space for cooperation with educational institutions in African countries. Moving forward, the school will actively implement the outcomes of this visit, continuously explore China-Africa vocational cooperation models, mechanisms, and pathways, focus on standard development and conversion applications, strive to conduct technical skills training, promote the application of technological innovation, and contribute to the school's goal of becoming a "vocational college with a high level of internationalization" in China.
