To allow both Chinese and international teachers and students at the college to experience the traditional Chinese culture and the customs of the Dragon Boat Festival, on the afternoon of June 1st, an event titled “Experiencing the Dragon Boat Festival” was held in the college’s first canteen. Organized by the college’s trade union and co-organized by the administrative trade union, the后勤 department, the academic affairs office, and the student affairs department, this event aimed to celebrate the traditional Chinese festival and enhance cultural understanding among participants.

At the beginning of the event, Liu Zhong, the president of the college, Vice President Chen Yuanjin, and representatives from various departments and international students jointly participated in traditional Chinese cultural activities such as making zongzi (rice dumplings) and embroidering sachets. Huang Xiaoli, the vice chairperson of the college’s trade union, introduced the origin and customs of the Dragon Boat Festival to the international students present. Through this event, international students were encouraged to bring excellent traditional Chinese culture to different parts of the world. The simple act of making zongzi deepened the understanding of excellent traditional Chinese culture among both college teachers and international students.

Under the guidance of experienced teachers, everyone gathered with their skillful hands, paying close attention to every detail. As they admired their handmade creations and shared their experiences, the venue was filled with laughter and joy.

“On the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, we celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival.” One of the traditional festivals of the Chinese nation, the Dragon Boat Festival is also known as Duanwu Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Double Fifth Festival, and Mid-Sky Festival, among others. Customs such as dragon boat racing, eating zongzi, hanging mugwort, and wearing sachets have become symbols of the festival.
