President Liu Zhong Leads Delegation to Nepal for Cooperation Talks

Time:2016-08-30

In accordance with the college's "Going Global" development plan, to further expand the channels and scale of international student recruitment, enhance the college's reputation and brand, and deepen exchanges and cooperation with developing countries along the "Belt and Road," a delegation composed of President Liu Zhong, Director Huang Xiaoli of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office, Secretary Li Zhongdong of the Tourism Department's Party Branch, and an interpreter visited Nepal from July 25 to 29, 2016, upon invitation from the Global College of Tourism and Hotel Education in Nepal.

President Liu Zhong and his delegation visited the two top hotel management universities in Nepal: the Global College of Tourism and Hotel Education and the College of Tourism and Hotel Management. They toured the practical training bases of both institutions, held discussions with the presidents and relevant officials of the two colleges, and signed cooperation agreements. The cooperation will focus on several areas, including exchange programs for Nepalese hotel management students to study at our college, the "2+1" talent cultivation model, establishing an overseas branch of our college at the Global College of Tourism and Hotel Education in Nepal, and providing faculty and teaching materials support for the tourism programs of the partner institutions.

During the visit, President Liu also called on the Nepal Chapter of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA). He had discussions with Mr. Suman Pandy, the chapter president, regarding the continued recruitment of Nepalese international students. The PATA Nepal Chapter expressed appreciation for the short-term Chinese language training program conducted by our college last year. They inquired about the academic programs, curriculum, and talent development in our college's mechanical engineering, automotive maintenance, photovoltaic technology, and new energy fields. The chapter also confirmed that they will continue to send students to our college for short-term Chinese language training and degree programs this year. Additionally, they expressed hope that our college will select outstanding talents to serve as volunteers at the PATA Nepal Chapter to further deepen cooperation between the two parties.

During the visit, the delegation also called on the Confucius Institute at Tribhuvan University and held discussions with the Chinese director of the institute to understand the situation of Chinese language teaching and promotion in Nepal. They also visited the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), an international organization, and were invited to join the Himalayan University Consortium under its alliance.

The delegation's visit to Nepalese institutions has promoted educational exchanges and cooperation between the college and Nepal, which is conducive to further enhancing the college's level of internationalization and implementing the national "Belt and Road" strategy.
