At 9:00 a.m. on December 16, the 24th Asian Technology Conference in Mathematics (ATCM) opened grandly in the Academic Lecture Hall of the college library. The theme of this year's conference is "Technology + Mathematics Innovation and Creative Thinking." Attending the conference were Wei - Chi Yang, founder and chairman of ATCM, Zhong Liu, President of Leshan Vocational and Technical College and chairman of the local organizing committee, Hui Wang, President of Leshan Normal University, Changyuan Song, Secretary - General of the Sichuan Computer Society, and Jean - Marie Laborde, a member of the ATCM International Program Committee. In addition, more than 200 experts and scholars from nearly 17 countries and regions attended and participated in the conference.
President Liu Zhong of the college delivered the opening address. He first extended a sincere welcome to the experts, scholars, guests, and faculty and students who had come from afar on behalf of the college, and expressed his gratitude to all those who have long cared for and supported the college's construction and development.
Liu Zhong pointed out that the conference will continue to address technology - based issues in the mathematical sciences and provide a high - quality platform for the exchange and sharing of the latest knowledge in the field of mathematical applications and educational technologies. It will also showcase research achievements in the integration of mathematics technology and mathematics education in recent years through exciting academic reports. This provides an opportunity for overseas mathematics educators from the United States, France, Singapore, Japan, India, and other countries and regions, as well as academic representatives and faculty and students, to fully exchange, discuss, and learn. It will allow more colleagues to gain a deep understanding of the important role of mathematics technology in mathematics education. Meanwhile, hosting this conference will surely become an important step for the college to accelerate its internationalization process and make significant progress in the field of international educational exchanges and cooperation.
Professor Wei - Chi Yang, chairman of ACTM and professor of mathematics and statistics at Radford University in Virginia, USA, and founder of the Asian Technology Conference in Mathematics, spoke at the opening ceremony. Professor Yang first introduced how ATCM was founded. He then pointed out that learning mathematics should not be just for passing exams. Mathematics courses should encourage and guide students to explore and discover. To this end, ACTM has launched the "Student - Centered Project," which aims to inspire students' thinking and encourage them to actively and deeply explore the mysteries of mathematics through participation in fun, challenging, and rewarding mathematical activities, rather than just mathematics competitions.
At the conference, student representatives from the college performed a music - and - dance program titled "Big Fish," featuring traditional Chinese culture and performed with traditional Chinese instruments and Han - style clothing, as well as a Sichuan opera excerpt "Three Heroes Battle Lu Bu." The conference, which lasts for four days, will include plenary academic reports, invited talks, short presentations, poster sessions, and practical workshops related to mathematics teaching software and hardware, as well as learning, research, and meetings of the International Program Committee.
