[Roots - Seeking Journey] Day Two in Leshan: Tea - Tasting and Art Appreciation

Time:2019-08-05

At 9:00 a.m. on August 4, the participants, dressed in neat yellow camp uniforms, sat orderly in the tea - art training room on the first floor of the Academic Exchange Center of the college, beginning their second day of the roots - seeking journey.

Tea - making is an art form as well as a science. In the tea - art training room, under the guidance of tea - art teacher Zhang Yanqin, the participants learned about tea, brewed it, and performed tea - art demonstrations, truly experiencing the rich connotations of Chinese tea - art culture.

Teacher Zhang introduced the details and key points of each step to the participants, including cleaning the tea - wares, adding tea leaves, brewing, rinsing the tea, distributing the tea, smelling the aroma, and tasting the tea. During the experience, the participants worked in pairs, sharing a set of tea - wares. The participants were fascinated by the cute "little gadgets" in front of them. Some immediately expressed their intention to bring the tea - art they learned today home to show their parents and elders.

Following the methods taught by Teacher Zhang, the participants then completed the entire process of tea - art with their own hands. While performing the tea - art, they also deepened their understanding of traditional Chinese etiquette culture.

The Chinese were the first to discover tea leaves, and Chinese tea was introduced to Europe during the Ming Dynasty. Before the Qin and Han dynasties, Bashu was the cradle of China's tea industry, and Jianwei Qingxi in Leshan was one of the important passages of the Southern Silk Road and the ancient Tea - Horse Road. Nowadays, Leshan tea is once again setting sail overseas and reaching the world along the "Belt and Road." Against this backdrop, the participants' tea - art experience today is even more meaningful.
